Badminton is a sport that is very similar to tennis in its fashion as they are both played on similar courts and they both involve racquets. The game involves opposing singles or pairs in which they try to drive the birdie at each other with the objective to make it fall on the other’s court. If it lands on the court of an opponent the person that hit it there gets a point. This is like Tennis where the same rules apply.

In Badminton, the birdie does not bounce very high or well so unlike Tennis the double bounce does not constitute as a point for the opposition. The single-bounce rule applies in Badminton due the texture and return on the birdie. Badminton has been played for a long time and is a form of exercise. It is good for people that do not have long winded sprints meaning that these people are not able to run for long distances. In tennis, a person must be able to run from one end of the court to the next back and forth and so on. In Badminton the court is smaller making things much easier on each individual competing in the game.

Although there is still athletic ability required it is much easier to go shorter distances than longer ones in a full on sprint. The birdie has feathers that cause a lot of resistance and drag after being hit so the hit must be accurate and have enough strength to make it to the opponent’s court. Badminton is also played in many all-purpose gyms because it is an easy game to simply start up and play. The only necessity for a simple game of pickup Badminton is a net separating the court at the half and sideline boundaries which can be made very easily and without much work.

Badminton is an Olympic sport and some of the fiercest competitions occur in these games in a match. It is one of the most played racquet sports in the world besides the obvious tennis and racquetball. However it is played in local gyms all around the United States of America and many other countries as well.

Badminton is governed by the Badminton World Federation similar to any other federation or ruling body for any other sport out there in the world. The BWF is in charge of determining new rules for Badminton as well as deciding when new rules should be implemented or taken away from the rule book. The BWF headquarters building is located in Malayasia which is an Asian country. The IBF or International Badminton Federation is another federation that is broken down by region. These regions are easiest to remember by the Continents of the world and each region of IBF is located on a Continent. The Sudirman Cup is held once every two years and is similar to the soccer World Cup. Many of the same implementations of the World Cup playoff system are internalized in the Sudirman Cup which promotes World Badminton.
