When I was a kid, I used to love the Dukes of Hazard tv show. It was probably my favorite thing in the whole world to watch. The problem was that it was a bit too stimulating for my young mind. You see, whenever the General Lee would take a jump and make a getaway from the sheriff, I would have to run around. I would crash into the furniture, shout “I'm a duke boy,” and generally make a nuisance of myself. As a result, I was not allowed to watch it very much.

When the Dukes of Hazard movie came out, I was happy to get to relive an old childhood experience. It was something that I had been looking forward to for months, and you can bet that I ran right out to see it as soon as it opened. I had been listening to a lot of Waylon Jennings music as a way to get psyched up, and had rented all of the old Dukes of Hazard tv shows from the video store to catch up on it.

To tell you the truth, I was a bit worried that I would be disappointed by the Dukes of Hazard movie when I finally saw it. Usually, I make it a rule to not get myself so psyched up about a movie coming out. After all, you never know if something is going to be good or not until you have the chance to see it. What if it let me down?

I need not have worried. The Dukes of Hazard movie did live up to my expectations. It managed to simultaneously preserve most of what I like about the old show and provide a new twist. Sometimes it was silly and satirical, and sometimes it was more straightforward, but it was a lot of fun the whole way through. To tell you the truth, we did a bit of drinking before going to the show (it was at a brew and view, after all) so I do not remember all of the details. What I do remember are some great car chases, hilarious dialog, and Jessica Simpson as a very plausible Daisy Dukes. It was not a very artistic movie, obviously, but it was a good film for a goofy Saturday afternoon out on the town. And there are times when those are the best movies of all.
